2014 US Youth Soccer Workshop schedule available

Some of the nation’s top clinicians will lead education sessions in Philadelphia

FRISCO, Texas (October 28, 2013) — The schedule is now available for the 2014 US Youth Soccer Workshop, held in conjunction with the NSCAA Convention, which will take place Jan. 15-19, 2014 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia — bringing thousands of coaches, administrators, referees and soccer enthusiasts together in one place.
Workshop education sessions and field demonstrations will take place Wednesday through Saturday, allowing coaches, administrators and all other attendees to learn from some of the nation’s most prominent soccer clinicians. The schedule of presentations features a variety of topics, ranging from US Youth Soccer programs to training advice to marketing and accounting lessons.

Dan Gaspar, Assistant Coach — Iranian National Team
Session topics: Inside Iran’s Road to Brazil World Cup 2014, How Goalkeepers Dominate Ball Possession
For more than 25 years, Dan has studied and created ideal training methods for goalkeeper and field player development. He has worked with world-class coaches, and his knowledge, expertise and savvy earned him the invitation to join the Portugal National Team coaching staff for the South Africa 2010 World Cup. He’s also worked with the U.S. National Teams, colleges and several professional clubs, including FC Porto, SL Benfica, Sporting Lisbon and the New York Metrostars. Dan holds a USSF ‘A’ License, as well as an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
Dan was recently profiled by NBC World News for his role as an assistant coach on the Iranian National Team and the potential political impact that soccer may play.
Peter Mellor, National Technical Director — United Soccer Leagues
Session topic: 13 – The Pivotal Age
Peter Mellor, currently a National Technical Director for United Soccer Leagues (USL), compiled 16 years of goalkeeper experience in the English Premier, 1st and 2nd Division Leagues with Manchester City, Burnley, Fulham and Portsmouth. Peter has more than 30 years of coaching experience in the United States at all levels, including in the MLS with Real Salt Lake. He’s also assisted numerous U.S. Men’s National Team coaches and trained the U.S. National Team goalkeepers from the Under-15 age level through the senior team. Some of the notable U.S. goalkeepers that Peter helped develop at the senior and youth levels include Tim Howard, Brad Friedel, Kasey Keller, Nick Rimando and Hope Solo.
Chris Snyder, Director of Coaching Education – U.S. Olympic Committee
Session topic: LTAD and High Performance Planning
Chris Snyder is the Director of Coaching Education for the United States Olympic Committee. His responsibilities include discovering and providing resources to better benefit sport culture and the National Governing Bodies that service sport in our nation. In addition, Chris is focused on supporting both the Sport Performance Department and Team USA coaches as they strive to be the best they can be. Previously, Chris served as the Manager of Coaching Education and Training for US Lacrosse in Baltimore, Md.

The US Youth Soccer Awards Gala will serve as the highlight of Friday night in Philadelphia. The Gala will showcase and reward soccer successes of the past year and over a lifetime. In addition to inducting the seventh class of the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame, the association is presenting awards for Recreational and Competitive Coach of the Year (Boys and Girls), Dr. Thomas Fleck Award for Excellence in Coaching Education, Administrator and Volunteer of the Year, Goal and Save of the Year and Young Referee of the Year (Male and Female).
Registration for the US Youth Soccer Workshop and NSCAA Convention, held through the NSCAA website, is open now through Jan. 14, after which attendees can still register on-site. Attendees are encouraged to register before Dec. 15 to receive a discounted rate.
US Youth Soccer and the NSCAA, two of the nation's soccer leaders, merged their respective annual gatherings for the first time in January 2013, in Indianapolis, which created the game's most influential event of the year. The combined convention appealed to the entire soccer community as US Youth Soccer brought the annual US Youth Soccer Workshop to the NSCAA Convention.
