US YOUTH SOCCER ROSTERING & NCS POLICY CHANGES – effective 8.1.11

US Youth Soccer and its member state associations approved wide sweeping changes that will impact all levels of play including National Championship Series play.  A summary of the changes passed include:

  • Increased maximum roster size to 22-players per team for U14s through U19s (maximum of 18 named for any game/competition)
  • Approval of “club pass” play for all players registered to a club in their state association
  • Ability to revise National Championship Series (NCS) roster at successive levels of the competition (State to Regional, Regional to Nationals) as limited in NCS policy
  • Required continuity of 9-players common to league rosters and every level of NCS play, for all age groups (excluding U19s who do not have a league play requirement)
  • Addition of the U13 age groups at Regional Championship for the 2011-12 season
  • Provisions about player and team officials uniforms and other outer wear at games

The following FAQ from USYS received yesterday provides initial information regarding these changes.  As further information and clarification becomes available for how this will be implemented at the Region III and state level of competitions, we will provide that as quickly as possible.   If you have general questions, please direct them to Sandy Parker, FYSA VP Competition atstatecupquestions@fysa.com and we will provide information as it becomes available.
