FROM:
FYSA Board of Directors & State Staff

April 1, 2020

On Thursday, March 12, 2020, the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) made the decision to suspend all FYSA state-level sanctioned competitions & programs until April 12, 2020. At the recommendation and guidance of US Youth Soccer (USYS), we updated the membership again on March 18, 2020, mandating that all affiliates suspend soccer activities until the new date of April 15, 2020. After a period of 15 days, the FYSA Board of Directors held a meeting on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, to reevaluate the current climate of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Following the update released by USYS on March 31st, 2020 (postponement of the return to field date and cancellation of the National Championships/Presidents Cup/Regional Programs), due to the increased amount of cases of COVID-19 in the state of Florida and wanting to adhere to the safety of the membership, the Board of Directors has decided to extend the mandated suspension date until May 3rd, 2020. The Board of Directors will provide another update after the April 21st, 2020 meeting should the suspension be extended further.

We know that this announcement may not be the encouraging news that you were hoping for, but the decision was made with the sole purpose of keeping everyone safe. Additional information is being sent this week to our clubs on helpful tools that can used at home, services available to our members impacted by the coronavirus, and material from our national partners at US Youth Soccer & the United States Soccer Federation.

On behalf of the FYSA Board of Directors & State Staff, thank you to our players, coaches, parents, and volunteers for your continued support of the game! United, we will see this through and be back on the field soon. Be safe, stay healthy and since you all have a soccer ball at home, try also to have some fun.

Sincerely,

The Florida Youth Soccer Association

Below are two recommend apps that players can use at home during the coronovirus:

SBA / Disaster Loan Program

Small business owners in all U.S. states and territories are currently eligible to apply for a low-interest loan due to Coronavirus (COVID-19). The SBA will work directly with state Governors to provide targeted, low-interest loans to small businesses and non-profits that have been severely impacted by the Coronavirus (COVID-19). The SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program provides small businesses with working capital loans of up to $2 million that can provide vital economic support to small businesses to help overcome the temporary loss of revenue they are experiencing. To learn more about this program: please visit the US Small Business Administration website for more details.

US Youth Soccer & Cinebody

FRISCO, Texas (March 23, 2020) — US Youth Soccer (USYS), the country’s largest and most influential youth soccer organization, is excited to announce the launch of an all new kid-sourced video content series via Cinebody. This user-generated video content series is designed to keep kids engaged, busy and having fun while they share their ideas and creativity — all while focused on their love of soccer and the accessible technology of their phones.

The Cinebody (cinebody.com) app and video software allows kids from anywhere to collaborate on video projects. The Cinebody platform has aggregated video content from over 132 countries and 4,988 cities. USYS will designate project details like themes and timing, then kids can submit their videos. USYS will then select the best videos from the kid-submissions to create a final video, which will be posted on USYS social channels. The Cinebody app is available on iOS, and Android users simply upload their videos to the Cinebody platform. To sign up directly, visit bit.ly/USYSCinebody. Given the creativity of our USYS kid audience, numerous video projects are planned over the weeks and months ahead.

“While many of our State Associations are developing online resources to help players train at home, USYS is going in a different direction to ask players to submit creative videos to demonstrate what they do to stay in soccer shape while at home. This will be a fun, creative exercise that all players will enjoy, ” said USYS CEO Skip Gilbert.

USYS invites everyone to be a part of the fun. As we all navigate our new environment, we’re happy to provide a resource that keeps kids and families engaged. We hope to share, retweet and like across all of our social media channels so everyone can join in the spirit of soccer.

FIFA - Five Steps to Kicking Out Coronavirus

fifa_top_story

FIFA and the World Health Organization (WHO) have teamed up to combat the coronavirus (COVID-19) by launching a new awareness campaign led by world-renowned footballers, who are calling on all people around the world to follow five key steps to stop the spread of the disease.

The 'Pass the message to kick out coronavirus' campaign promotes five key steps for people to follow to protect their health in line with WHO guidance, focused on hand washing, coughing etiquette, not touching your face, physical distance and staying home if feeling unwell.

“FIFA and its President Gianni Infantino have been actively involved in passing the message against this pandemic since the very beginning,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus at the virtual launch of the campaign at WHO headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. “Be it through campaigns or funding, FIFA has stood up to the coronavirus, and I am delighted that world football is supporting WHO to kick out the coronavirus. I have no doubt with this type of support that together we will win.”

“We need teamwork to combat the coronavirus,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “FIFA has teamed up with WHO because health comes first. I call upon the football community worldwide to join us in supporting this campaign to pass the message even further. Some of the greatest players to have played the beautiful game have put their names to the campaign and are united in their desire to pass the message to kick out COVID-19.”

Twenty-eight players are involved in the video campaign, which is being published in 13 languages.

March 20, 2020 Update (Archived)

TO:
All FYSA Club & League Administrators

FROM:
FYSA Board of Directors & State Staff

March 20, 2020

We want to express our sincere appreciation for your continued patience and support as we navigate the ongoing changes due to the coronavirus (COVID-19). The FYSA Board of Directors (BOD) met Thursday, March 19, 2020, to discuss COVID-19 and the immediate impact that it will have on FYSA and the membership. Listed below are several of the matters that we discussed over the course of the meeting:

  • The mandatory suspension of play remains in effect until April 15, 2020 as per the guidance of US Youth Soccer (USYS). The BOD is monitoring the situation and gathering information from various health organizations and local authorities regarding extended field closures impacting our member clubs. If further suspension is necessary, the Board of Directors will act quickly and send notice to the membership.

  • The FYSA State Tournaments (Commissioners Cup, Presidents Cup, & State Cup) play dates that have been previously communicated will NOT be played as scheduled. FYSA intends to complete all state tournaments before next season. FYSA has prepared multiple scenarios to complete the state tournaments, but the fluidity of this situation along with the unknown return to play date and regional competition status make it impossible to do anything but plan.

  • As of March 20, 2020, the USYS has not cancelled or moved dates for Regional or National competitions (National Championship Series or Presidents Cup). Should a change occur, FYSA will update our members.

  • Questions regarding refunds will be addressed by the FYSA Board of Directors as more information is received.

Please continue to take all advisements and instructions from local/national healthy agencies to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Updates to our members will continue next week.

Sincerely,

The Florida Youth Soccer Association

FROM:
FYSA Board of Directors & State Staff

March 18, 2020

Based on the updated information provided by US Youth Soccer (USYS) & the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) is mandating that all FYSA sanctioned activities within our association be immediately suspended through April 15, 2020. This includes not only FYSA related programs, but also the following activities: sanctioned leagues and tournament play, practices/training, all tryouts, team travel, and group meetings. FYSA will not be sanctioning any soccer related activities during this period. As a reminder, players participating in unsanctioned activities are not covered by FYSA insurance

Health organizations from around the world are advising that gatherings of 10 or more people are to be discouraged to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. We continue to monitor the situation and rely on expert advice from our state and national partners for when it is safe to resume all soccer programs. Please continue to take all advisements and instructions from local/national healthy agencies to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

Thank you for your continued patience and we will update you with more details soon.

Sincerely,

The Florida Youth Soccer Association
