Soccer Forward Play Day Brings Over 100 Young Athletes Together in Tampa

On a sunny afternoon at the Tampa Bay Rowdies Training Facility, more than 100 young athletes filled the fields for the Soccer Forward Play Day—an event designed to celebrate community, inclusion, and access to the beautiful game.
Hosted in partnership by New York Life, Soccer Forward, Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA), and local organizations including TOPSoccer and Tampa Area Recreational SA, the event brought families and players together ahead of the U.S. Men’s National Team match in Tampa.
The day featured back-to-back programming, beginning with an energetic TOPSoccer session followed by a series of small-sided games open to local youth players. From first-time players to seasoned recreational athletes, the blend of participants created the kind of diverse, uplifting environment that reflects the true spirit of the sport.
Excitement reached new heights when U.S. Men’s National Team players Aidan Morris and John Tolkin arrived on the field. Both athletes spent time meeting the kids, taking pictures, sharing encouragement, and even joining in for several small-sided games—an unforgettable highlight for players and families alike.
Adding to the inspiration, U.S. Men’s National Team alum Oguchi “Gooch” Onyewu also attended the event, speaking to the young athletes about leadership, perseverance, and the power of the game to create opportunity.
With over 100 participants, hands-on engagement from national team players, and strong collaboration from community partners, the Soccer Forward Play Day succeeded in its mission—bringing people together through the universal language of soccer and laying the groundwork for continued growth and opportunity in the Tampa area.
The energy, inclusiveness, and smiles seen throughout the day are reminders of the powerful impact soccer can have when communities come together.
