FYSA Introduces College Showcase to State Cup Group Play

FYSA Introduces College Showcase to State Cup Group Play

Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) is strengthening player identification opportunities by embedding a College ID Showcase directly into group play at the 2026 Florida State Cup, bringing more than 35 colleges and talent scouts into meaningful championship matches.

Unlike traditional college showcases that require separate registration, travel, and additional costs, the FYSA College Showcase is fully integrated into existing State Cup group play for 16U & 17U teams. Student-athletes will be evaluated in competitive; high-stakes matches teams are already preparing for, providing college coaches with a more authentic view of players in real game environments. In addition, 18U/19U teams from the Fall 2025 State Cup will be invited to participate in the showcase at no additional cost.

“This showcase is a clear reflection of our commitment to providing accessible and equitable opportunities for player identification,” said Ryan Foley, CEO of FYSA. “By embedding college exposure into games that already matter, we’re creating a model that is practical, inclusive, and player-centered.”

As an association-led initiative, the showcase leverages an existing competition weekend, minimizing disruption for clubs and families while maximizing value. Traditional college showcases can exceed thousands of dollars per team, while State Cup entry fees remain under $1,000, lowering the financial barrier to college exposure.

The showcase will feature more than 35 colleges representing NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA, and Junior College programs across both boys and girls age groups. FYSA will designate select group play fields as showcase fields while maintaining the integrity of the existing State Cup competition format. Each participating team will play two group play matches during the weekend.

The Florida Soccer School (TFSS) will support college coach coordination and engagement throughout the event. TFSS is known in the state for hosting events such as the International Coaching Symposium, IDX College ID Showcase, Monster Mash, and their high performance Elite Residential Academy Summer Camps.

“We’re incredibly excited to partner with FYSA to provide an impactful collegiate recruitment experience for the players involved,” said Fred Dikranian, Founder of The Florida Soccer School. “FYSA State Cup will now provide a significant recruitment opportunity for Florida clubs, teams, and players, and it’s a testament to the leadership and collaboration of everyone involved at FYSA in making this vision a reality.”

Earlier this year, FYSA announced that State Cup registration would be open to teams from any governing body, removing structural barriers and expanding access to Florida’s premier championship competition. FYSA’s three Cup competitions grew to more than 1,000 teams statewide this seasonal year, reaching a new benchmark from recent years.

“This unanimous investment from FYSA’s Board of Directors reinforces the association’s commitment to player-centered innovation,” said Daragh Cullen, President of FYSA. “We are building a model that accelerates access to affordable, meaningful identification opportunities now and into the future.”

Together, open State Cup registration, expanded team capacity, and integrated college identification reflect FYSA’s continued focus on innovation, accessibility, and long-term player development.

FYSA will track college coach engagement and player identification outcomes as part of its broader effort to evaluate and refine player-focused initiatives. Additional details, including a list of participating schools, information on new recruitment profiles, and a recruitment education webinar for players and families, will be announced in the coming weeks.

FYSA CUP COMPETITIONS TO KICK OFF WITH MORE THAN 1,000 TEAMS

January 5, 2026

FYSA CUP COMPETITIONS TO KICK OFF WITH MORE THAN 1,000 TEAMS

AUBURNDALE, FL (January 5, 2026) — Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) will officially kick off its Cup competitions this February as more than 1,000 teams take the field across the State Cup (National Championship Series), Presidents Cup, and Commissioners Cup; a significant benchmark for competitive youth soccer in Florida.

Spanning multiple age groups and competitive tiers, FYSA’s Cup competitions continue to serve as a cornerstone of the state’s soccer calendar, offering teams meaningful competitive play and the opportunity to vie for a state championship within their respective brackets.

“Reaching more than 1,000 teams across our Cup competitions speaks to the consistency, credibility, and scale of our events,” said Ryan Foley, Executive Director of FYSA. “These competitions have long been an important part of the Florida soccer landscape, and this milestone reflects the trust clubs place in FYSA to deliver high-quality championship experiences.”

Beginning in February, competition will feature group play and elimination rounds for 13U through 18U/19U teams in the State Cup and Presidents Cup, along with 9U though 16U teams competing in the Commissioners Cup. Across all three competitions, teams contend for the distinction of being crowned an FYSA State Champion. Earlier this seasonal year, FYSA crowned champions in the 18U/19U age groups for the Florida State Cup.

COMPETITION STRUCTURE AND CHAMPIONSHIP PATHWAYS

FYSA’s Cup structure is intentionally designed to meet teams where they are competitively, while maintaining alignment with US Youth Soccer:

  • Florida State Cup (USYS National Championships): The highest level of state competition, with champions advancing into the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, the nation’s most prestigious youth soccer pathway. Recent enhancements to provide teams a direct path to the national competition have further modernized the experience and strengthened competitive balance.
  • Florida Presidents Cup: A competitive alternative that offers meaningful postseason play and advancement opportunities within the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup pathway, which continues to evolve with improved alignment and visibility at the regional and national stages.
  • Florida Commissioners Cup: A statewide championship designed to provide a challenging and enjoyable experience for teams competing outside the National Championships and Presidents Cup. The competition begins at the FYSA regional level before culminating in a statewide final.

EXPANDING ACCESS AND THE FUTURE OF FYSA CUPS

While this season’s participation milestone reflects the strength of FYSA’s longstanding Cup competitions, it also coincides with a strategic evolution in how those competitions are positioned moving forward.

Beginning this year, FYSA has opened its Cup competitions to all Florida-based teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer, regardless of governing body; a shift designed to foster greater collaboration, reduce fragmentation, and create broader access to state-level championship play.

“Our responsibility as the state association is to bring the soccer community together, provide consistent standards, and ensure that teams across Florida have access to meaningful, high-quality competition,” Foley added.

As FYSA Cup play begins this spring, the association looks forward to another season of competitive excellence while continuing to invest in programming that strengthens the game statewide.

FYSA Cups Now Open to All U.S. Soccer-Affiliated Teams

November 14, 2025

FYSA Cups Now Open to All U.S. Soccer-Affiliated Teams

Auburndale, FL – Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) is proud to announce a major milestone in our statewide Cup competition structure. Florida-based teams from any U.S. Soccer-affiliated organization, regardless of their league or governing body, are welcome to compete at the appropriate level.

In a shift from previous years, players and coaches competing in U.S.-Soccer affiliated competitions outside of FYSA no longer need to register players with FYSA to participate in any of the three premier Cup competitions. Aside from FYSA (USYS) membership, registrations from U.S. Soccer affiliates such as US Club Soccer, USSSA, SAY, AYSO, MLSNext, Girls Academy & Aspire, and USL Youth Academy will be accepted. This open-access model expands opportunity, enhances competitive diversity, and reinforces FYSA’s commitment to high-quality youth soccer pathways.

An Aligned Vision for Florida’s Youth Soccer Landscape

This represents a significant modernization in FYSA’s competitive structure, ensuring that talented players and ambitious teams across the state have the opportunity to compete on Florida’s biggest stages without adding barriers.

“This is an important milestone for youth soccer in Florida, ” said Ryan Foley, FYSA Executive Director. “By opening our Cup competitions, we are paving the way for a more connected and player-centered future. Florida can operate as one aligned landscape, and FYSA is committed to leading that alignment.”

About the FYSA Cups

FYSA hosts three championship levels as part of the expanded Cups:

Florida State Cup

The Florida State Cup, proudly sponsored by Publix, is the state leg of the US Youth Soccer National Championships. State Cup Champions will advance in the USYS National Championship Series to compete for the National title! Teams compete in a group play format hosted by FYSA, before advancing to the elimination rounds.

Florida Presidents Cup

The Florida Presidents Cup, proudly sponsored by Publix, is designed for those teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities. Presidents Cup champions will advance to a USYS National Presidents Cup Qualifier to compete against the Presidents Cup champions from other Southern states to advance to the National Presidents Cup for the national title!

Florida Commissioners Cup

The Florida Commissioners Cup, proudly sponsored by Publix, is a championship competition for 9U-16U teams to have the opportunity to compete against teams of similar competitive levels within their region throughout the state. 11U-16U champions from each region will then advance to a Statewide Championship.

Players, coaches, and teams may enter for the appropriate level of competition so long as they meet the respective tournament eligibility rules and risk-management requirements. Proof of membership and good-standing with a US Soccer affiliate member will be requested.
